Today’s Responsorial Psalm is from Psalms
90. This Psalm talks about how our lives
as humans are short and frail, but God is forever. On this day 4 years ago a friend of mine,
Jordan, died in a car crash. This event
shook me and made me realize the message of this Psalm. Sometimes it is scary to think of how frail
we as humans really are, and that God may one day call home the ones we love
and those whom we surround ourselves without a moment’s notice. Though, it is important for us, as it was for
me, to remember that when a time like this does occur the Lord is our rock and
our fortress. He is the one we can
always turn to for guidance and support.
While we may be sad, or angry, or even numb to feeling, God is our
refuge now and for all of eternity.
Lord, you have been our refuge
through all generations. Before the
mountains were born, the earth and the world brought forth, from eternity to
eternity you are God. A thousand years
in your eyes are merely a yesterday, but humans you return to dust, saying,
“Return, You mortals!”
